Despite falling behind by seven going into halftime, the Lutes women’s basketball team refused to go down without a fight against the Evergreen State Geoducks, losing 66-59. The second half was a back-and-forth affair.

A junior Andrea Adam’s three-pointer for the Lutes cut the Evergreen State lead to three with 31 seconds left in the game. That was as close as the Lutes would get though, as the Geoducks made four free throws down the stretch to close out the game.

“I think we had a few first game jitters,” senior Samantha Potter said. “[We had a] new coach, new system, we had a difficult time adjusting to how the game was officiated. It just wasn’t our best efforts tonight. We needed to rebound better and maintain our composure throughout the game.”

Potter helped set the pace offensively, as she led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds.  Senior Shelly Kilcup, a guard, chipped in 17 points while hitting three three-points, while point guard Megan Abdo, a sophomore, led the Lutes with five assists. Sophomore Sarah Barnes came off the bench to play 30 minutes, scoring nine points and five rebounds.
