An explosion in the Rieke open lab is usually a worst-case scenario.

On October 22, however, the explosions were purposeful – and professor-endorsed.

At the Mole Day Eve celebration, the nationally-recognized PLU Chemistry Club performed a series of experiments to show students and community members the fun side of chemistry.

The Periodic Table of Elements made out of brownies was also featured.

Mole Day, which takes place on October 23, refers to a part of Avogadro’s number: 6.022 times 10 to the 23rd power.
