This week’s edition of The Mast Radio Hour was full of high energy.
First of all, Mast Radio is growing! We had 10 people in the studio with us for the show, from current Mast Radio team members, to those who will be joining the team as we expand.
We are up to three one hour shows, and will soon be adding a fourth show, and expanding our news and talk show to two hours.
Second, the stories on this week’s show were thought provoking.
Our top story was the announcement of Pacific Lutheran University’s intent to sell 88.5 KPLU FM, the Edward R. Murrow award-wining station whose call letters bears the initials of our institution. KPLU started as a student-run station in the 1960s and became a public radio station in the 1980s and became a National Public Radio affiliate. Current students, alumni, and faculty echo the concern of the members and listeners of KPLU who were distraught over the sudden announcement by the university to sell off the station. A definitive deal must be reached between PLU and the University of Washington before the sale is reviewed and approved by the FCC.
We also previewed two other stories that are coming out in this week’s edition of Mast Magazine.
Patty Krise, PLU’s First Lady, welcomed our Mast Media reporters into her home for an in depth interview. We highlighted how Patty met Dr. Krise, PLU’s President and Professor of English, her career with Ford Motor Company, and her amazing support for PLU students.
PLU’s music program is well known locally, nationally, and even internationally. For a university of our size, we have a rather large music department with faculty who are accomplished performers in their fields. This year’s Christmas concert, “A Christmas Invitation”, will be broadcast on Oregon Public Tevelivision, and the concert will air nationally on PBS affiliate stations next year.
Last but not least, we had a candid interview with Sam Ellefson, the star of MastTV’s newest show “Late Knight,” which premiers this Thursday at 9 pm to a live studio audience in The Cave. The show can also be viewed on Youtube. You can find the link to watch the live stream here.
It was a fun show, and hope you will join us again next week.
