Protests, Puppies, and J-term Plans – 12/8

It was a cold and rainy night, but that didn’t stop us from getting on the air and bringing you the latest news and talk.

We started off the show talking about “Dead Week” and how everyone is dealing with the stress of finals. We also talked briefly about the KPLU protest that happened on campus last week. Students and community members came together to protest the sale of KPLU. The protesters began in Red Square and then marched around Ingram Hall and around the Hague building before returning Red Square. The protest was covered by local news outlets. Pacific Lutheran University is the owner and liscensor of 88.5 KPLU FM, and recently signed an intent to sell the station for $8 Million to KUOW, which is licensed by the University of Washington.

We also talked about J-term plans that we all had, including classes and study away opportunities. Mast Media has an article coming out about students not being able to register for J-term classes. Mast Media will also be putting out another edition of Mast Magazine in January.

Brooke Thames came into the studio to briefly talk about the newest Art installation in Ingram Hall with the ceramic, photo and other exhibits. We do wish to clarify that the story about a real Vincent Van Gogh painting in one of the staff lounges in Ingram Hall is just a rumor, and has yet to be confirmed. Mast Media is currently looking into this and hopes to report on this very soon.

We also talked about the puppies that will be in Red Square on Thurs, Dec 10 from 11 am to 2 pm. Petting puppies and other small animals help to relieve stress, especially during this time of the semester.

Thanks for listening tonight, and we hope you’ll join us next week for our “Best of” show.
