Fall is upon the Pacific Lutheran University campus. Classes have been in session for a month now. The leaves are changing colors, groovy sweaters are coming out of the closet and this past Sunday was Fall Preview Day.
About 185 prospective students and their families drove to PLU at 8 a.m. to see the campus. They spent the day attending different academic sessions, a Lute Life Fair, and an expansive tour of the campus.
On a nice, sunny Sunday it was a prime opportunity for high school seniors to take in the wonders of PLU and discover whether PLU would be the place for them to spend the next four years.
Fall Preview Day gives prospective students the chance to feel the spirit of community that PLU has to offer. Prospective students are able to connect with academic faculty and inquire if they offer the courses they are looking for to achieve their goals.
The main hope from Preview Day is that prospective students will apply to PLU thus allowing more in depth conversations of PLU such as financial aid, scholarship opportunities, along with fostering more connections to students and programs available that they would benefit from.
Admission Ambassadors gave tours in the afternoon. Tours started at the AUC and made a loop throughout campus. The tours provide nothing new for current students, but for incoming first-year students, the tours provide a first-hand look at their possible future.
The tour guides integrate their stories and experiences of college with the overall PLU mission. The tour guides are current students who explain how PLU fits into their future goals and how PLU helped them grow, with great stress on the concept that PLU strives to allow students to find their vocation and how that relates to making an impact on this earth.
It’s important for currents students to realize why there are a bunch of kids wandering around in awe because they once were those seniors in high school, wondering what the future held and what college they would choose.
Whether or not current students went to Fall Preview Day as seniors, PLU certainly does an excellent job of showing prospective students the caring community that PLU is, which isn’t too hard to show, considering PLU is just that: a caring community where students are able to learn, meet fantastic people, and discover their vocation.
