Kesha Rose Sebert (formerly Ke$ha) filed a lawsuit with the Los Angeles Supreme Court against Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) on Oct. 13, claiming years of acts of mental, verbal and physical abuse and, most shockingly, repeated drug-induced rape.
Dr. Luke then hit her, her mother and her manager with a lawsuit right back, claiming extortion and defamation after a contract dispute.
The lawsuit comes as a shock, especially because of the case’s explicit nature.  Kesha has come forward about an abusive relationship with Dr. Luke.
Right after the new year, Kesha checked herself into a Chicago rehab facility for bulimia which she says came from mental abuse by Dr. Luke who degraded her appearance constantly, and claims he hit her for her weight on set for a music video.
The dramatic weight loss is apparent between Kesha’s music video for Crazy Kids in 2013 and her music video for Timber later in 2013.
When Kesha returned from her two month stay in rehab, she started her comeback path by first changing her name from Ke$ha to Kesha Rose. She asked to be taken as a serious artist even though her past music has been — let’s face it — rather ridiculous.
In the new 28-page file, the “TiK ToK” singer begins her claims against Dr. Luke when she was still a high school student in Nashville.
According to Kesha, Dr. Luke practically forced her to drop out of high school at 18, threatening her with a record contract, asking her to leave her entire life behind. This was in 2005, making the length of the abuse 10 years.
From there, he used his control over her, as he is a powerful figure in the music industry who she signed contract to, to abuse her. This includes forcing her to snort illegal drugs and giving her a date rape drug, according to claims from Kesha. She woke up “naked in Dr.Luke’s bed, sore and sick, with no memory of how she got there.”
Although these sexual allegations will be the main focus of the lawsuit — and of everyone’s attention — Kesha also depicts Dr. Luke as controlling, even blackmailing her with threats to destroy her and her family if she came forward about the abuse.
But if Kesha’s claims are true, why is this the first time she is reporting it? Wouldn’t there be a record of her going to the emergency room after the alleged rape?
If Kesha’s claims are true, she has been stuck as the fearful artist scared to cross the powerful Dr. Luke.
The lawsuit also works for Kesha as the second step in her comeback from rehab.
This isn’t the first time Kesha has come out about Dr. Luke’s threats, “torture”, and rape. Nine months ago, Kesha appears to have reached out about her abuse to her fans when responding to fan mail in rehab.
Dr. Luke and his team have reported that they have yet to see the complaint from Kesha and have also refused to comment on the suit.
But Dr. Luke is not alone – TheFIX reported that Katy Perry, Dr. Luke’s highest-grossing client, called Kesha’s abuse claims “sour grapes” due to her lack of talent.
For now, it’s too early to say whether the claims by Kesha and Dr. Luke are true or false. We’ll have to wait for the courts to untangle this lawsuit.
