The homecoming dance is Cinderella story: you get dressed up, find a date and at the end of the night you go back to your normal life of school, books and tests.
For that one night however, you’re living the dream. Coordinated by Sarah Giomi this year, Pacific Lutheran University’s Homecoming dance will be more glamorous than ever.
Homecoming will be held at The Pacific Grill Event Center in downtown Tacoma, Oct. 10 from 8-12 p.m. Tickets are $25 for one, or $40 for a pair and they can be purchased at the concierge.
“In the past years, students have noted that the dances felt like a high school prom and I wanted something more,” Giomi said.
This year’s event aims to be more mature and sophisticated. “We all have so much stress from school, every student deserves a night to forget about that stress, dress up and feel beautiful.”
This year’s theme is “Black and Gold Never Gets Old” and it’s a “black and gold tie affair” Giomi said. “It’s a formal event and students should feel like they’re being treated to a great night.”
One of Giomi’s goals for this year was to give students a reason to dress up, but not feel like they’re being sent back to high school.
The Pacific Grill is catering the event, featuring finger foods and a dessert bar. All food and entertainment for the night will be covered under the cost of the ticket. There will also be tables with entertainment for students who don’t like to dance.
If you’re over 21 and need some liquid courage to get your groove on, drinks will be served. Not a part of the ticket cost, students can have up to three drinks.
For all the boogiers at PLU, the music will be a mix of all genres and recent hits. The DJ Brandon Jefferson came highly recommended from across the Pacific Northwest.
“My goal for this event is to give students a night they’ll never forget,” Giomi said. “With the elegant venue in the heart of the city, students will feel glamorous and they deserve that.”
Don’t forget, the dance is just one night. Homecoming Week has five days of events including a kickoff on Monday during chapel break in Red Square where there will be a “Happy Hour” ticket sale for which single tickets will be $20.
On Wednesday, the Cave will hold a Hump Day event with trivia. The winning group from that night will receive free Homecoming tickets. On Friday, there will be a laser tag war in the field house and karaoke in the Cave to get students active and creative. A list of all Homecoming activities will be released in the next week.
