One of fashion’s most iconic duos, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of Dolce&Gabbana, are not living “la dolce vita” any longer as they are soon to become the next fashion name of the past.
That is, after expressing their views of the past in a new interview with the Italian magazine “Panorama”.In the magazine, the duo is quoted as saying:
- “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one.”
- “You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that’s how it should be, I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.”
- “The family is not a fad. In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging.”
This is ridiculous, not only because they were a gay couple themselves until their breakup in 2005 after 23 years, but because they are calling ALL children of alternative methods synthetic.
That includes the kids on our very campus whose parents went through fertility treatment.
Rather than celebrating the possibility of family for everyone (at least those who can afford it), Dolce added “I’m Sicilian and I grew up in a traditional family, made up of a mother, a father and children. I am very well aware that there are other types of families and they are as legitimate as the one I’ve known. But in my personal experience, family had a different configuration” in his statement.

Their apology continued, adding that they do believe in “freedom and love” – yet they are against people using their freedom and love to create families that they talk so much about treasuring…. Hmm
These comments caused Elton John – a huge supporter of Dolce&Gabbana to boycott Dolce&Gabbana, posting on Instagram with #BoycottDolceGabbana, and dozens of celebrities followed.
Including myself. I’ve actually been eyeing a certain shade of D&G lipstick for the past month, but after their judgmental and hateful comments to the children and couples I love, I will be taking my business elsewhere.
As if you needed another reason to be upset with Dolce and Gabbana, they tried to trend #BoycottEltonJohn like pathetic cowards. With their archaic thinking, I’m surprised they learned how to hashtag.
And they added that “It’s an authoritarian way of looking at things. If you agree with me, fine. If not, I’ll hammer you” yet they said they are fully supportive of freedom – apparently not when it comes to Elton John posting what he wants, or people deciding against them.
If you are supportive of freedom, of love, of medical advancements, of science, of the LGBT community, of adoption, of non-cisgender couples, of family, of progressive thinking, of equality, I urge you to not support Dolce and Gabbana in any way!
Don’t buy any of their products.
Don’t smell their perfume samples when you go through Macy’s.
Don’t even try on their eyeglass frames.
Nothing.
