10/23 Garden Theft
Location: Community Garden
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety officers responded to a report of a theft from the shed at the Community Garden. The padlock from the shed had been broken off and that at least a few cans of spray paint, an expandable hose, and a spray nozzle for the hose were missing. Security camera video review was unable to yield any suspect information.
10/23 Scandinavian Center Flooding
Location: Scandinavian Cultural Center at the Anderson University Center
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety officers responded to a report of flooding in the Anderson University Center. A Parkland Light and Water technician broke a water pipe that spilled water down the external staircase and under the East-facing external door to the Scandinavian Cultural Center. PLU Facilities Management responded to address the water damage. No further damage occured to property within the room.
10/23 Lute Locker Shoplifting
Location: Lute Locker at the Anderson University Center
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety officers responded to a report of shoplifting from the Lute Locker in the Anderson University Center. A Lute Locker employee explained that a hand warmer had been taken by two middle school aged females. Based on the descriptions given, officers contacted two students outside the Anderson University Center. Both were initially cooperative and spoke to officers but claimed not to have taken anything. During this time one student provided a name that was later revealed to be false. Security camera video review showed this student removing the hand warmer, placing it into her sweatshirt pocket and leaving the area without paying. Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies and Campus Safety officers contacted the student at Keithley Middle School on Friday, October 27, 2017, at which time she was issued a Restricted From Campus order for her behavior.
10/24 Harstad Medical Aid
Location: Harstad Residence Hall, Floor 3 Center Bathroom
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety officers responded to a call for medical aid in the third floor center stairwell bathroom of Harstad Residence Hall for a staff member who was found unconscious and unresponsive by a Harstad resident. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue was called and Campus Safety officers attempted to rouse the staff member but efforts were unsuccessful. Emergency Medical Technicians arrived and transported her to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma for further care. PLU Facilities Management was notified.
10/23 Ivy Lot Vandalism
Location: Ivy Parking Lot, West Side
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety received a report from a student indicating that he found the tire of his Jeep Wrangler flat and believed an intentional cut was the source of the flat tire. Officers reviewed security camera footage of the parking lot within the time frame. The cameras captured a clear view of his vehicle but no suspicious activity was seen.
10/24 University Center Medical Aid
Location: Anderson University Center
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety officers responded to a request for medical aid in the Anderson University Center for a student who was experiencing dizziness and a severe nose bleed. Officers were able to slow but not stop the bleeding. After several minutes, Campus Safety called Central Pierce Fire & Rescue for further patient evaluation. Emergency Medical Technicians were able to stop the bleeding after 20 minutes and cleared the student to remain on-campus for the evening.
10/25 University Center Theft
Location: Anderson University Center, Floor 1 near the Lute Locker
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety was contacted by a Keithley Middle School student who reported his phone was taken after he left it on a chair in the Anderson University Center. The student went to the Old Main Market on Floor 2 of the University Center and when he returned it was gone. There is no suspect information at this time.
10/25 Columbia Center Lot Theft
Location: Columbia Center Parking Lot, South End
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety officers responded to a reported vehicle prowl. A student found the contents of their car disturbed and multiple items were missing. Security camera video footage review yielded footage of an unidentified subject arriving in a vehicle occupied by three people at 12:46 AM on October 25th, then accessing the car. The student was instructed to file a Sheriff’s Department theft report for the theft and was informed that video footage was available.
10/25 PLU Alert: Stay in Place
Location: Campus-Wide Alert. Incident one block west of campus
Synopsis:Â Campus Safety initiated a Stay in Place PLU Alert after the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported a potentially dangerous domestic violence incident one block west of campus. The initial report involved a domestic violence situation involving a firearm with a shot fired. The Stay in Place alert was lifted when deputies detained the suspect on-scene just a few minutes later.
Update: The Mast submitted a Public Records request for more details about this incident, but information was not provided because it is an active investigation.
10/26 Garden Theft
Location: Community Garden
Synopsis: Campus Safety received a report of damage and theft from a shed in the community garden. Several tools were reported missing. The shed was last seen intact on October 25th at 10:30 AM. Security camera footage review shows an unidentifiable subject riding a bike and carrying extra parts ride into the garden at 7:17 AM on October 26th and leave at 7:19 AM. There is no indication that he is carrying items reported as stolen, but he is the only subject seen entering the area.
10/26 University Center RFC
Location: Anderson University Center, Concierge Desk
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded to a report from the Campus Concierge of a disruptive person. Officers contacted a non-PLU-affiliated guest, Todd Douglass, who had been disruptive and disrespectful to the Concierge staff while trying to have a fax sent. Douglass was uncooperative with officers and was issued a Restricted From Campus order for his behavior. He was then escorted off of PLU property.
10/26 Upper-Campus Bike Theft
Location: Upper-Campus Bicycle Rack between Stuen Residence Hall and the Hauge Administration Building
Synopsis: Campus Safety received a report from a student of a stolen bicycle. The bicycle had been locked to a bike rack between Stuen Residence Hall and the Hauge Administration Building on Tuesday, October 24th. When they returned to the rack on Thursday, October 26th, the bicycle was gone but the lock, which had been cut, was left near the rack.
10/26 Facilities Equipment Theft
Location: On-Campus
Synopsis: Campus Safety received a report from PLU Facilities Management that two Stihl brand leaf blowers had been stolen from Facilities Management carts. Suspect information was unavailable, and the exact time of the theft was not clear other than that the blowers were accounted for at the end of business on Wednesday, October 25th. Security camera footage review was conducted for areas where the carts frequently stage, but no conclusive footage was found.
10/26 Ingram Medical Aid
Location: Ingram Hall
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded to a request for medical aid in Ingram Hall for a student who was reported as being unresponsive to their professor’s attempts to wake them. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue was contacted but was later cancelled as officers were able to wake the student. There was no clear cause of the episode, but the student reported that they had very little sleep the night before and had not had anything to eat or drink. Though initially dazed, they became more alert over the course of a few minutes. They were able to stand, walk, and verbally communicate with no issues. Officers urged the student to call Campus Safety if any issues returned.
10/26 Off-Campus Vehicle Theft
Location: Off-Campus
Synopsis: A student reported the theft of his vehicle. Initially the theft was reported to have occurred on campus in the Morken Parking Lot but the student later reported to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department that it was actually stolen from his residence several blocks from campus.
10/26 Pflueger Wellness Check
Location: Pflueger Residence Hall
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded to a request for a wellness check on a student after they made concerning statements about self-harm. Officers contacted Residential Life staff and together they contacted the student. They determined [no?] immediate risk and PLU Residential Life scheduled a same-day follow-up appointment with the student to discuss the situation further.
10/28 Pflueger Weapon & Drugs Violation
Location: Pflueger Residence Hall
Synopsis: Campus Safety responded to Pflueger Residence Hall to assist a Resident Assistant with a marijuana policy violation investigation. Campus Safety contacted the residents of a room and conducted a student-led room search. Marijuana, alcohol, drug paraphernalia, and empty alcohol containers were found, confiscated, and disposed of. A pellet pistol was also confiscated and placed in the Campus Safety evidence locker. This incident has been forwarded to Student Rights & Responsibilities for review.
10/28 Pflueger Wellness Check

Location: Pflueger Residence Hall
Synopsis: A Harstad Resident Assistant requested Campus Safety to check on a student who failed to return to their residence hall after drinking off-campus. The student was contacted in Pflueger and admitted to drinking off-campus but showed no signs of intoxication or discomfort. This incident was categorized as an Alcohol Policy Violation by Campus Safety and has been forwarded to PLU Student Rights and Responsibilities for review.
10/28 Facilities Management Burglary
Synopsis: Campus Safety responded to a report of a cut lock at gate G15 of the Facilities Management compound. During an inventory check, Facilities Management staff discovered a single gasoline can was missing, and that four other locks on spread around lower campus had been cut, but no further theft had occurred.
10/29 Pflueger Medical Aid
Location: Pflueger Residence Hall
Synopsis: A student sustained back pain while reaching for an item in their refrigerator. Campus Safety officers responded and provided a cold pack to the student. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded and evaluated the student but did not transport them. The student was taken to St. Claire hospital by a fellow student.
10/30 OMM Shoplifting
Location: Old Main Market at Anderson University Center
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded to a report of shoplifting from the Old Main Market in the Anderson University Center. Market staff provided a description of the two middle school aged males involved. Campus Safety found and contacted the two juveniles, who were compliant, and when asked one of them confirmed that he had attempted to shoplift a bag of snack mix from the market. He returned the item when asked, but was issued a Restricted From Campus order for the attempted theft.
