Pacific Lutheran University announced Wednesday that the Campus Status Dial is moving from Stage 3 to Stage 4 because of improvements in COVID-19 cases and deaths.

The Office of the President sent out an email explaining the move, and further delegating which classes will be able to make the switch from online to on campus.

Classes designated “Blended,” or “BL” on the interactive class schedule, will now have the option of having in-person classes. The move will be dictated by each class’s professor and their comfort level when it comes to teaching in person.

Classes designated “Online,” or “ON” on the interactive class schedule, will remain online until the university deems it safe to come back to campus.

Faculty will give no less than one week’s notice before their class returns to in-person learning, meaning that students will have a week to decide whether they personally want to return to campus for class.

Students are also given the option to remain online, whether or not their class is returning to campus. If you prefer to remain online, please contact the Office of Accessibility and Accommodation.

Classes are not the only activities returning to campus. The Commons and the Anderson University center will now be open for indoor dining with limited seating available. The maximum occupancy will be capped at 25%, groups will be limited to four people, and the dining areas will be cleaned frequently.

Instrumental and choral ensembles will also be given usage of the Eastvold stage for rehearsals, while individual students will be given access to Lagerquist Hall for live streamed concerts, with no more than 6 audience members allowed into the performance.

Athletics have had COVID-safe protocols in place since the beginning of Fall semester, and will keep those protocols in place for further athletic practices and competitions.

In the meantime, the university asks that students keep wearing masks and washing their hands frequently to prevent the spread.

Welcome back, Lutes!
