On February 23, Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) golfer Tiger Woods was involved in a single-car rollover accident in Los Angeles. In a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, they revealed that the vehicle had taken serious damage and that Woods was the only occupant in the vehicle.
Woods was unconscious when he was pulled out of the wreck and said that he had no memory of the morning of the accident. He was removed from the wreck by the Los Angeles County firefighters with “the jaws of life.” Woods was then transported to a local hospital to treat his injuries.
After the accident, the crash was put under investigation. At the time of the accident, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office (LASO) said that the crash was “purely accidental” due to the way the road is structured, but the sheriff has since then gone back on that statement. The LASO said that, “the sheriff spoke about the information known at the time and said it appeared to be a traffic accident. However, the traffic collision investigation is (on)going and traffic investigators have not made any conclusions as to the cause of the crash.”
On top of that, according to USA Today, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has “executed a search warrant to obtain data from the black box in the car.” The warrant was “a routine part of [the sheriff department’s] probe.” The LASO told USA Today that this was done to determine whether or not a crime had been committed.
Woods has a history of driving impaired. In 2017, Woods was arrested in Florida after falling asleep at the wheel due to having multiple drugs in his system although he was later cleared of that charge. There would have to be probable cause of a felony for the authorities to obtain any medical data in this instance.
Woods’ Twitter account posted an update on February 26 on his physical health. “Tiger has moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and received follow-up procedures on his injuries this morning. The procedures were successful, and he is now recovering and in good spirits.”
