Aver, Move 78: The Algorithm Smiles Upon You (2021, Village Live Records): Highly arranged jam sessions became modern jazz standards. The mixture of samples, live instrumentation and experimentation created a chill neo-fusion vibe. Listen to Sanctuary, Faye and Middling.
Douglas McCombs: VMAK<KOMBZ<<<DUGLAS<<6NDR7<<< (2022,Thrill Jockey Records): The long time member of Tortoise created an avant garde and free album. I advise to expect both chaos and serenity in the three track epic. Listen to Green Crown’s Step.
Sam Gendel: blueblue (2022, Leaving Records): Gendel composed another group of meditations. Born on a houseboat in Oregon, the album captured solitude and introspection. Listen to Yoko-jima (横縞, horizontal stripes), Kōshi (格子, checks) and Shippō (七宝, seven treasures of the Buddha).
