It’s a mystery. No one seems to know the identity of the person behind The Lego Lute, the latest addition to the plethora of PLU Instagram accounts.

Featuring a small, Lego-version of our PLU mascot, The Lego Lute’s content includes pictures of the figure at various locations around campus, reposts of other PLU clubs and organizations, and an interactive “Question of the Week” in which followers submit questions that everyone else gets to answer. Followers include students and PLU clubs like @plulateknight, to none other than large, university-ran accounts like @plu_arts, @plucampuslife, and even PLU’s official instagram, @

To learn more about The Lego Lute’s intentions and goals, The Mast conducted a Q and A session via instagram. Here is what they had to say:

Why did you start the Lego Lute account? In other words, what is the purpose behind the account? What are you trying to achieve by having it?
“Originally, I just wanted to take pictures of a Lego Lute around campus and see where it went. But as I started posting more, I decided that I wanted to try and use the personality and the account to promote connections and using the university’s resources. It’s very expensive to go to school, especially at a private school, and so many students let the resources they’re paying for go unused. That was me last year, and this year I’m really trying to encourage students to get out there and get involved with clubs, sports, and the faculty resources too.”

Are you really a student at PLU, or possibly an alumni or faculty?
“Yes, I am actually a student. I won’t say what year exactly, but I’m not a first year.”

Why do you want to remain anonymous?
I feel like if there was a real face associated with The Lego Lute, it would take away from some of the magic and fun of it! I want to keep my own personality separate from The Lego Lute’s, especially if the account does continue to grow.”

Is the Lego Lute figure an official PLU Lego?
“No, The Lego Lute is not an official PLU – issued Lego. The Lego Lute figure that you see on the account is made with original, classic Lego Castle minifigure pieces, which is why the armor pieces and sword have a little faded look to them. I intended to go for a more classic, timeless look with the figure while still trying to stay as accurate to the official PLU Lancelute.”

What are your goals for this upcoming school year?
To keep posting consistently and to continue to grow!

Is there anything specific you would like to say to our readers?
“The Lego Lute is here to help you get connected! If you have any questions, ideas for content, or want to get connected with any clubs, The Lego Lute’s dm’s are always open. More than happy to help find the right people for you and get you connected with the right resources! Love you all! P.S: Please send in more Question of The Week ideas!!!”

While the true identity behind The Lego Lute looks to remain a mystery for the foreseeable future, it’s nice to know that there’s some heart and good intentions behind it. “While the account still only has just a little more than 200 followers as of October, which is still quite small in social media terms, the content and engagement seems to be encouraging” said The Lego Lute. For now, their goals seem to be promoting getting connected and involved in the college experience, utilizing all of the university’s resources and advocating for joining clubs and organizations, as well as continuing to grow naturally and responsibly on social media.
