Members of Congress voted to expel George Santos this morning in a bipartisan outcome of 311-114.
His time in office was overshadowed by frequent revelations of lying; among others, Santos falsely claimed to have been a volleyball star at Baruch College, to have worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and that he was Jewish.
Nels Kallus, Career Center resume advisor, says that while common, it’s discouraged to embellish on a resume. “It can be tempting to polish past the point of honesty, but if Geroge had come to me I would have told him to reign it in a bit. It’s the official opinion of the Career Center that you get one lie per application, but it can’t be to claim minority status.”
The straw that broke the camel’s back came in May. Santos was indicted on 13 criminal charges including wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.
When asked for a reaction to being only the 6th person in history to be expelled from Congress, Santos replied, “Nah. That ain’t me. My name is Al Franken. No! I’m AOC. No, wait! I’m Matt Gaetz. Yeah, that’s who I am. I’m Matt Gaetz and I’ve never done anything wrong.”
