For the second year in a row, the T.O.H. Karl Forensics Forum was honored with a bronze medal sweepstakes award recognizing them for being one of the most successful forensics programs in the region this year.
This coveted award is presented to debate teams with outstanding programs in the Pacific Northwest. The sweepstakes trophy is a regional award; schools from Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Northern California all compete for this prestigious honor. Winning teams are recognized for their successful performance throughout the 2015-2016 season.
“I’m proud of our Lute’s continued success,” said Dr. Justin Eckstein, Director of Forensics at Pacific Lutheran.
The sweepstakes award is earned through repeated appearances in elimination rounds by team members as well as individual speaker awards. To win this award for back-to-back years is a testament towards the strength of the T.O.H. Karl Forensics Forum.
“This proves the strength of PLU’s debate team runs deep,” said Brendan Stanton, senior debate team member, “It’s not just one or two debaters – it’s an entire squad of high-achieving, successful Lutes.”
The T.O.H. Karl Forensics Forum will continue its competitive season at Hatfield Debates in Salem, Oregon the last weekend in February. The team invites new members to come and join the legacy they are creating.
T.O.H. Karl Forensics Forum’s mission is to provide undergraduate students a democratic laboratory to craft and test arguments, explore new literature, hone critical reasoning, practice public speaking, and develop leadership skills. The T.O.H. Karl Forensics Forum balances competition with service to the local community through forensics mentoring programs and public debates.
The T.O.H. Karl Forensics team is housed in the Department of Communication and Theatre at Pacific Lutheran University, which offers approximately 3,500 students a unique blend of academically rigorous liberal arts and professional programs. Students develop skills in decision-making, analysis, communication and reasoning that prepare them for a lifetime of success – both in their careers and in service to others.
As PLU dances around ranking lists, take it with a grain of salt.
