The quarantine imposed by Pacific Lutheran University was not a new phenomenon to me. My family stayed quarantined for the majority of the summer, only traveling when absolutely necessary. During that time, I turned to one of my favorite hobbies for entertainment and comfort by crafting.
In the last 10 years, I have made hundreds of friendship bracelets, so you might say I’m an amateur expert. My favorite type of design is also one of the easiest, the “chevron.” Using as many colors as wanted, the chevron is made of consecutive “V” lines that descend to the end of the bracelet. It allows you to practice the basic knots until a beautiful bracelet is made.

I enjoy painting as well, so my roommate and I bought some acrylic paint and canvases at the craft store. We have really liked getting creative and spending time together while music plays in the background. I have noticed I am less stressed and more content when I am getting creative.
I hope my fellow lutes can find something to focus their creative energy, especially since we cannot be out-and-about socializing or attending entertaining events on campus. A hobby as simple and easy as crafting is affordable for most college students and can make great gifts for friends and family to show you care.
