People across the country tuned in to President Obama’s address regarding Syria Tuesday evening.  The President reported that he recommended a targeted strike against Syria’s chemical weapons, but that he was deferring a vote in Congress until diplomatic options were exhausted.
Not everyone may have had the option to discuss the address, or talk about what it meant for the country, but the PLU Diversity Center took advantage of the opportunity to facilitate a discussion.
ASPLU Diversity Director Sarah Smith attended the event, and said that PLU is unique in facilitating these types of discussions.
“I think it was a great opportunity,” said Smith. “Going to PLU, you recognize that you are part of this international and global community, and you realize it’s important to know what’s going on in the world.”
Also present were reporters from the Seattle news station King 5. Â They recorded some of the students’ discussions, and gauged the reactions of the attendees.
According to Smith, every reaction to the address was different, but the overall feeling was wondering what to expect in the future.
“The immediate feeling tended to be: ‘What does this mean next?'” Smith said.
