Campus Safety Week in Review: October 9-15, 2017

10/10 Foss Medical Aid

Date: Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 5:30 PM
Location: Foss Field
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue EMTs responded to a medical aid on Foss Field for a student who had injured their knee while playing intramural soccer. EMTs evaluated the student and advised that transport to the hospital was not needed.

10/12 Names Medical Aid

Location: Names Fitness Center
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded for a medical aid call at the Names Fitness Center for a student who was experiencing pain and an inability to extend their leg from the knee. With no clear cause of the medical problem, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue was requested for evaluation. Before the EMTs’ arrival, the student’s knee suddenly became functional again after loosening up. EMS was canceled and the student walked to the athletic training office at Olson Gymnasium for further evaluation.

10/12 125th St Vehicle Prowl

Date: Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 10:45 PM
Location: 125th St S, near Park Ave S and the Neeb Center
Synopsis: A KNKX radio staff member reported to Campus Safety that his vehicle had been prowled while parked on 125th St S outside of the Neeb Center. Officers reviewed security camera video footage with no pertinent results. The employee was advised to file a report with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. No suspect information is available at this time.

10/13 Hinderlie Marijuana Investigation

Location: Hinderlie Residence Hall
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded to a call from a Resident Assistant in Hinderlie Residence Hall, who reported a strong odor of marijuana. Officers contacted two resident students in a room and a room search was conducted. Both students were cooperative. They admitted to smoking off-campus and no marijuana or paraphernalia was found in the room. This incident has been forwarded to PLU Student Rights & Responsibilities for review.

10/13 Anderson Bike Theft

Date: Friday, October 13, 2017 at 5:13 PM
Location: Anderson University Center, Bicycle rack outside of The Cave on the south side of the building
Description: A Keithley Middle School student reported the theft of his unlocked bicycle from the south bicycle rack outside of the Anderson University Center. He suspected a fellow Keithley Middle School student of the theft. Security camera video review is pending.

10/13 124th St Vehicle Prowl

Date: Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:30 PM
Location: 124th St S, near campus
Synopsis: A student informed Campus Safety that her vehicle had been tampered with while parked on 124th St S. She believed her vehicle’s muffler and resonator had been deliberately removed. No suspect information and no security camera video footage of the theft is available.

10/13 Olson Medical Aid

Date: Friday, October 13, 2017 at 3:30 PM
Location: Olson Gymnasium, Lobby
Synopsis: While moving a large display of Bjug Harstad’s beard, two PLU employees received cuts to their fingers. Campus Safety officers cleaned and dressed the wounds, and both parties declined medical treatment from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

10/14 Sparks Stadium Vehicle Collision

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 12:45 PM
Location: Off-Campus, Sparks Stadium in Puyallup
Synopsis: Campus Safety was contacted about an off-campus collision involving a PLU van. A Catering Services employee backed into a parked vehicle while at Sparks Stadium. Vehicle insurance information was exchanged and photos of the damage have been forwarded to the PLU Risk Manager.

10/14 Ordal Wellness Check

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 12:45 PM
Location: Ordal Residence Hall
Synopsis: Campus Safety officers responded to the room of a student after receiving a call from PLU Counseling Services. Counseling Services requested that officers check on the student who may have taken an overdose of antidepressant medication. Upon contact with officers, the student clarified that they had only taken one additional pill more than their prescribed amount. They stated they had no intention of harming themself. They were encouraged to remain in contact with the counselor and various resources on campus. The on-duty Resident Director was notified. This incident has been forwarded to PLU Student Rights & Responsibilities for review.

10/14 West Hauge Vehicle Collision

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3:40 PM
Location: West Hauge Parking Lot
Synopsis: Campus Safety was contacted by a student who reported that she bumped an adjacent vehicle with her vehicle in the West Hauge Parking Lot. Vehicle ownership of the vehicle that was struck could not be determined. The driver left her contact and insurance information on the vehicle that was struck.
