Three games was all it took for the Seattle Storm to win their fourth championship in franchise history.

The 2020 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBA) Finals featured the top two seeds in this year’s playoffs, but it was the second seeded Storm who absolutely dominated in the series.

After sweeping the Minnesota Lynx in the semifinals, the Storm made easy work of the top seeded Las Vegas Aces, winning by double digits in all three games.

The unanimous Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) Breanna Stewart led the way for the Storm, averaging 28.3 points per game during these Finals. Her six consecutive Finals games averaging 20 points or more is a record.

Alongside Stewart, it was a complete team effort by the Storm. Veteran and now four-time champion Sue Bird set a Finals record with 16 assists in Game 1. It wasn’t just Stewart and Bird who carried the Storm though. As a team, the Storm had 33 assists in Game 2, another Finals record.

For the Aces, with two-time Sixth Woman of the Year Dearica Hamby out for the series, they were in desperate need of some offense. The Aces were carried by A’ja Wilson, who averaged 19 points in the Finals, but other than Wilson, there was little to no help. In Game 3, Wilson was the only Aces player who scored over double digits.

In the end, the Storm’s balanced attack was just too much for the Aces to handle. Seattle now joins the Houston Comets and the Minnesota Lynx as the only franchises in WNBA history to win four championships.

For those who still think that Seattle doesn’t have a professional basketball team, the Storm have proven once again that this certainly isn’t the case.
